BAXTER - Hertha "Hattie" Katharina Maria Steensen Johnson, 94, of Colonia Manor in Baxter, formerly of 411 N. 6th Ave E., Newton, a longtime resident of Newton, died Thursday morning, Oct. 18, at the Colonial Manor of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. George Cuff, pastor of the First Assembly of God, will conduct services. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a daughter, Lois (Mrs. Noel) Decker of Lambs Grove; two grandchildren, Janice (Mrs. Thomas) Verdooen of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Ronald Decker of Warterbury, Conn.; three great-grandsons; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lowell, March 30, 1977, brother, Henry Steensen, and a sister, Annabelle Steensen.

Mrs. Johnson, a homemaker, had resided in Newton from 1926 until moving to the Colonial Manor.

The daughter of Paul and Katherine Kuhr Steensen, she was born Feb. 20, 1896 in Denison.

She was married to Lowell Melvin Johnson June 16, 1923 in Ida Grove. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1990
