Claire N. Johnson, 92, of Baxter died of heart ailment Monday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, and burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born in Russell and lived in Newton most of his life and in Des Moines briefly before moving to Colonial Manor of Baxter in October. He retired from the Vernon Co. in Newton.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Windsor Heights; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call after noon Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995.

BAXTER - Clair Johnson, 92, of Colonia Manor in Baxter, a former longtime resident of Newton, died Monday, Jan.2, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements, which have not been completed.

BAXTER - Funeral services for Claire N. Johnson, 91, a resident of Colonial Manor in Baxter since October and a former resident of Newton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thursday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

He died Monday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines of heart failure.

Survivors are a son and daughter -in-law, Robert and Eloise of Windsor Heights, Des Moines; two grandsons; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wilma, and a brother, Verle.

Mr. Johnson was a factory worker at the Vernon Co. until his retirement in 1970.

The son of Jessie and Lydia Ann Martin Johnson, he was born Feb. 16, 1902 in Russell.

He was married to Wilma Beintema July 21, 1929 in Chariton.

Mr. Johnson, who moved to Newton in 1919, moved to Des Moines in July, 1993, and to Colonial Manor in October, 1994. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995.
