Betty Mae Johnson

Betty Mae Morales Johnson, 63, of 322 N. 15th Ave. W., a resident of Newton for the past 13 years, died of complications of kidney failure Wednesday morning, March 21, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Jerry Doellinger, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after noon Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Kenneth F. "Pappy" Sr.; three sons, Donald Sites Jr. of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ronald Sites of Pleasantville and Kenneth F. "Skip" Sites Jr. of Newton; three daughters, Donna Barnes of Des Moines and Linda Sites and Rebecca "Becky" Johnson, both of Newton; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Wayne Morales of Anaconda, Mont., and Raymond Morales of Des Moines, a half-brother, Kenneth Daugherty of Paradis, Calif., and a half-sister, Geneva Swift of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Christy Jean in 1970 and a brother, Gerald Daugherty.

The daughter of Phillip P. and Daisy Ann Boyer Morales, whe was born July 23, 1926 in Lacona and was a graduate of Des Moines East High School.

She was married to Kenneth F. Johnson Sr. Sept. 13, 1956 in Des Moines.

Mrs. Johnson resided in Pleasantville before moving to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1990
