Glenn E. Minear Dies Here at 43

Glenn E. Minear, 43, general traffic manager of the Maytag Co. and Newton city councilman, died Monday morning at his home at 1601 West 13th St. South.

Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Minear had recently been released from the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Morgan-Loehr Funeral Home after 3 pm Tuesday.

Morgan-Loehr funeral home will be in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Minear is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, John, 6; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, 3; three brothers, Paul of Des Moines, John of California and O. L. of Des Moines; and six sisters, Mrs. Harry (Irene) Tinnermeier of near Newton; Mrs. Earl (Gladys) Hobbs of Newton, Mrs. Howard (Icle) Smith of Newton, Mrs. Lucille West of Marshalltown, Mrs. Elmer (Betty Lou) Snook of Newton and Mrs. Stanley (Faye) Byal of near Baxter.

Mr. Minear joined the Maytag Co. in November, 1945, was made assistant traffic manager in 1947 and promoted to traffic manager in 1957.

A councilman at large, Mr. Minear was elected to the council from the second ward in 1955, serving for two years in that position.

In 1957 he was elected councilman from the fourth ward and in 1959 as councilman-at-large.

Mr. Minear was chairman of the council's ways and means committee.

Mr. Minear was commander of the National Guard unit in Newton from 1949 until 1955 and from 1956 until his retirement in February 1961 with the rank of captain.

He served five years in the Army during World War II and was in the European theatre of operations.

Mr. Minear was a member of the Presbyterian Church and active in church affairs.

He was also a member of the Newton Chamber of Commerce, the Newton Country Club, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple in Des Moines.

A member of the Maytag Management Club, Mr. Minear was chairman of the board of directors of the Iowa Industrial Traffice League. He also served as president of the Country club in 1954.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Minear, he was born March 19, 1918 in Unionville, Mo.

He came to Nwton as a child with his parents and attended Newton schools. he was graduate from newton high school and later attended Midland Linotype school at Charles City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 3, 1961.

Glenn Minear Services Conducted Wednesday

Funeral services for Glenn E. Minear, 43, traffic manager of the Maytag Co. and Newton city councilman, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church.

The Rev. Paul E. Becker of Des Moines conducted the services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Nelson, Harold Paschal, LaVerne Edgeton, Dr. George Mace, Dr. Frank Forsythe and Dr. L. D. Norris.

Morgan-Loehr funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Newspaper unknown, possibly Newton (IA) Daily News, no date given.

Transcriber note: According to Newton Union Cemetery Records Mr. Minear was the 1st husband of Elizabeth Cecile "Betty" (Broadston) Minear Gause and he was born 1918 and died 1961.
