Jacob Schmitt was born in Eppstein, Bavaria, Germany on September 10, 1831 and died at his home in Washington Twp., Jasper Co., Iowa on March 22, 1924.

Came to America at age 14 years, landing at New Orleans in July, 1847 after a voyage of 62 days. On October 28, 1856, he married Henreitta Rauscher.

Five children - Phillip of Mitchellville, Mrs. Anna Anderson of Morning Sun, Henry and Lizzy of Mitchellville and one son, George, who died in infancy.

The wife and mother died December 15, 1899.
