Newton (IA) Journal
Wednesday, April 22, 1896A Mother Gone
The body of Mrs. Rebecca E. Bushey was brought to Newton Monday morning. She had died in her home in Wichita, Kansas, last Saturday, after having been in failing health for a year, and been severely sick for several weeks with heart trouble.
Mrs. Bushey was born in Newville, Cumberland County, Pa., April 20, 1838. When fourteen years old, she united with the church. In 1871, having moved to Newton, she with her husband united with the Lutheran church here, of which she remained a faithful and exemplary member for a full score of years, commanding the respect and love of all who knew her. Her husband, M. N. Bushey, was a harness maker in Newton for a number of years. He left Newton in search of work, went to Colorado and there died.
In 1891, she was given a letter of dismissal from the church because of her moving away. In January of 1895, she united with the Congregational Church at Wichita, Kansas, where she was keeping house with her son Frank, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Galusha also boarding with them.
The funeral was held in the Lutheran church Monday afternoon. The casket was loaded with lovely flowers, and numerous bouquet in vases and floral emblems showed the loving appreciation of friends. Rev. Jacoby had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Harrah. A choir of good voices rendered the appropriate music. Mrs. Bushey’s three children, Mrs. Jennie Letts, of Des Moines, Mrs. Mae Galusha and Mr. Frank Bushey, of Wichita, were present at the funeral. R. G. Galusha also came. It was, indeed, a sad coming to the home of their childhood. Many friends were present to show their sympathy. The Eastern Star chapter was present in a body, the deceased being a member of that order.
