Austin Corbin was killed last week, by being thrown from a carriage in which he was riding. He formerly did considerable business in Iowa, and was personally known to many of our citizens. In 1863 he came to Jasper county and bought the entire lot of land advertised by the County Treasurer to be sold for delinquent taxes, and many of the deeds for lands sold were made in 1866, and we have it that lands that cost him ten cents and acre, cost the delinquents as much as $10 an acre to redeem. R. A. Sankey afterwards attended to business for him, and “Chan” Cook was remotely connected with him in the building of the Central Railroad.
