David Beems, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Poweshiek township, died at his residence, one mile south of Greencastle, Monday evening last, aged about 70 years. He was a member of Co. D., 40th regiment, and has a most honorable record as a gallant and faithful soldier. He was twice married, and leaves five children, a wife, and scores of warm friends to mourn his departure. He will be buried at Greencastle this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
