INDIANOLA, IA. - Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church for Jeremy Youngkin Smith, 11, of Indianola. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery west of Indianola. Jeremy died Friday at home of complications following a bone marrow transplant.

Jeremy was born in Newton and lived in Lacona before moving to Indianola three years ago. He was a fourth-grade student at Emerson Elementary School.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sue and Brian Smith of Indianola; his father, Larry Youngkin of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Aaron Smith of Indianola; his grandparents, RV and Freda Smith and Bob and Ruth Youngkin, all of Newton; his step-grandparents, John and Maxine Smith of Newton; and three great-grandparents.

Freinds may call after noon today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Friends may also call from 3:30 p.m. to service time Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be left in his name at the funeral home to be used for the purchase of books for the Indianola Public Library. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, March 1990.

INDIANOLA - Funeral services for Jeremy Youngkin Smith, 11, of 1200 North East, Indianola, a former resident of Newton, will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola.

The Rev. Gary Nims, associate pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Sugar Grove Cemetery, west of Newton.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

Friends may call at the Indianola church from 7 p.m. today until time of services.

Memorials in his name, to be used for the purchase of books for the Indianola Public Library, may be left at the funeral home.

He died Friday evening at his home following complications following a bone marrow transplant.

Survivors are his parents, Brian and Sue Smith of Indianola; and Larry Youngkin of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Aaron Bryon Smith of Indianola; his grandparents, RV and Freda Smith, Bob and Ruth Youngkin and John and Maxine Smith, all of Newton; and his great grandparents, Edna Smith of Arkansas and John and Ethel Grimes of Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Thurman Bryon Smith.

The youngster was a fourth grade student at Emerson Elementary School in Indianola.

He was born July 19, 1978 in Newton, resided there until moving to Lacona at the age of eight and later to Indianola. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, March 26, 1990.
