DIED - At his residence, in Sherman Township, Jasper County, Iowa, very suddenly, William S. Rider. He had been in the enjoyment of reasonable good health until the day before he died, but had been warned by his physician that his heart was affected.

William S. Rider was born in East Poultney, Rutland County, Vermont, April 14th, 1814, and died May 10, 1894; aged 80 years and 26 days. When 8 years old, in 1822, he went with his parents to Geauga County, Ohio and there lived to manhood. In 1840 both joined the Christian Church, of Chardon. He married Miss Martha McElroy, Jan. 24th, 1836, in Cleveland, Ohio, Ohio.

In 1854, he moved with his family to Adams County, Wisconsin, where they remained until 1865, when they came to Iowa and to Jasper County in the fall of 1867, settling on the farm where he lived until his death. One son gave his life for his country, being killed at the battle of Shiloh, April 6th, 1862. Two sons and three daughters, with their mother, a very feeble old lady, survive him.

One son, C. W., in Nebraska, was not present at the funeral, which was conducted by Rev. Allen Hickey, at Union Chapel, on Saturday, May 12th, at 2 o'clock, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church, to await the Resurrection morn.

Those present from a distance were his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Brown, of Montezuma; Mrs. D. S. Brown, a niece, from Dexter; Miss Jennie Parker, a granddaughter, of the State Normal School.
