The Newton (IA) Journal, Wednesday, Mar. 21, 1894

AT REST - After long months of suffering, Mr. David Conn, Sr., passed to the beyond, March 13th, 1894. Mr. Conn was born in the northern part of Ireland a little over sixty-nine years ago. It was here also that he was married. After the marriage, the two moved to Scotland, where they lived until all their children, nine in number, were born. In 1874, they all came to America and first lived in Massachusetts, but moved again to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1883, thinking it the better State to make a good living in.

All the children are living, except one, and were present at his death-bed. He was prepared to go and conscious to the very last moment, talking to his loved ones. He was an honest, industrious man, a true husband and loving father. Wednesday afternoon, the remains were taken to the U.P. Church, in Wild Cat Grove, where the funeral was held, after which he was gently lowered to his last resting place beside the grave of his son Andrew, in the cemetery next to the church.

A large company were present to show their sympathy for the living and respect for the dead.

How rapidly, of late, have the aged been leaving us; like the ripened grain, ready for the harvest, they are cut down by the reaper, "Whose name is Death."
