Mrs. Martha A. Fugard was born in New York city on March 27th, 1832, and died of heart failure, at Kellogg, Iowa, October 25th, 1983, in her 62nd year.

Her early life was spent mostly in Ohio, and she was married in Homer of that state in 1848 to Samuel C. Fugard, who survives her. They came to Iowa in 1855 and have lived most of the time since in Jasper county. Six children were born to them, four of whom are living, as follows: Mrs. Lee Clawson and Ira Fugard of this place, Mrs. Alice Hoisington of Neligh, Nebraska, and Frank E. Fugard of Columbus, Nebraska.

She had been failing in health for a number of years, and during the past year has been a great sufferer. She was a member of the Christian church of this place. ~ The Newton Journal, Wednesday, Nov 1, 1893
