Kellogg Enterprise: James Richards, for many years foreman on the construction train stationed at Kellogg, dropped dead from an attack of apoplexy in the water closet at the Ogden House on Wednesday morning, August 16th, 1893. Deceased was unmarried, a native of Wales, aged about 50 years.

[Deceased was a member of the Kellogg Lodge, and of Oriental Commandery, K. T. No. 29, of Newton.

On last Sabbath, about ninety of his Masonic brethren went from this city in a body, to attend his funeral, accompanied by the K. T. Band. The sermon was preached by Rev. Odenweller, after which the remains were taken charge of by the Masonic fraternity, Mr. J. H. Bailey, officiating and the body laid at rest by the beautiful and impressive ceremonies of the order.

Mr. Lewis Richards, brother of the deceased, who was formerly road-master under Col. Preston, but who now resides at Bartlett, Nebraska, was present at the funeral, as also were Roadmasters Cox, Osborn and Preston, as well as Masons from Grinnell, Altoona and Brooklyn. Mr. Richards and wife request us to sincerely thank the Masonic fraternity and all other friends who joined in rendering honors to their deceased brother.] ~ The Newton (IA) Journal, Wednesday, August 16, 1893.
