RICHARDS, COATS

DIED. – Mr. Henry J. Richards died at his home in Newton, on Saturday, Jan. 13, 1894. He was born in Davenport, Sept. 30, 1853. He came to Newton when about 19 years of age with his family, and resided here with the exception of four years which he lived on a farm north of Newton. In Oct., 1883, he married to Rachel Coats and three children blessed their union. Besides the bereaved family his father lives at Altoona, two brothers and sister who reside in different parts of the state. All were present except one brother who lives in Des Moines who was not able to come. In his business life deceased has known most of our people and the family have the sympathy of all. The funeral services, under the management of the Woodmen were held in the Congregational church and the remains laid away in the Newton cemetery.

IN MEMORIAM. – Resolutions in memoriam of H. J. Richards, adopted by White Pine Camp, No. 182, Modern Woodmen of American, Newton, Iowa:

WHEREAS, death has again invaded our Camp, and taken from our midst our esteemed neighbor H. J. Richards, and recognizing that by his death our Camp has lost a true and honored neighbor, his family a kind and loving husband and father, and our community, one who always championed right principles; therefore be it

Resolved, That we tender to the stricken family our heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement.

Resolved, That out of respect for the memory of our deceased neighbor, our Hall be draped in mourning for thirty days; also

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to th family of the deceased and also to each of the city papers for publication, and that they be spread on our records, and that a page be set apart for the memory of our neighbor.
