LYNNVILLE — Elizabeth "Betty" Gause Van Genderen, 83, of Lynnville died Saturday, July 29, 2006, in Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A private family graveside service will be Tuesday at Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville.

The family invites friends to a "Celebration of Betty's Life" Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the basement of Lynnville Friends Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Jasper County, the American Cancer Society or the Wagaman Mill Museum.

She was the daughter of Harvey and Helen Gause. She graduated from Lynnville High School and received a degree in nursing in 1942 from Deaconess Hospital of Nursing in Marshalltown. She served in the Army Nurse Corps for two years during World War II.

On Feb. 21, 1945, she married Glen Van Genderen in Lawrence, Kan. After the war, they made their home in Lynnville. She was employed as a nurse in the office of Dr. R.E. Sparks in Lynnville for seven years, then became the school nurse for Lynnville-Sully and Sully Christian School districts for 19 years. She retired in 1985.

Mrs. Van Genderen was active in community service, including the local blood drive, the American Cancer Society and the Lynnville Friends Church. She was a member of Eastern Star and served on the board of Wagaman Mill Museum.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Bev Van Genderen of Lynnville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gary Van Der Kamp of Newton and Marcia and A.J. Grosenbach of Grinnell; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Crews of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Hampton, Bruce and David Bause.
