BAXTER -- Esther Marie Remsberg Cross, 94, of Baxter, a longtime Baxter area resident, died Sunday morning, March 18, at Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton of cardiac arrest.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Darrell Bailey, pastor of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, will conduct services. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son, Wade of Baxter; a granddaughter, Mary (Mrs. Charles) Zahurones of Still man Valley, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, in 1974 and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Cross, a member of the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ, had taught in Jasper County schools prior to her marriage.

The daughter of Frank and Lucy Daft Remsberg, she was born Nov. 21, 1895 near Colfax and was graduated from Colfax Community High School.

She was married to Joseph Cross Dec. 3, 1919 in Colfax.
