Resident’s Sister Died

Odessa M. Carter, 80, died Wednesday evening, June 6, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.

Services were held Saturday, June 9, at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Keith Hejnal, pastor of the United Church of Christ of Osage, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Born Osessa Fuller, May 31, 1910, in Laurel, she was the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Hainke Fuller. She was educated in Laurel and Marshalltown schools.

She married George Ausdal on Nov. 23, 1927 and he preceded her in death in 1943. On May 18, 1946, she married Raymond T. Carter, and they lived in Marshalltown.

Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Methodist Church, where she was active in directing weddings and was in the Hospital Auxiliary. For a number of years she was employed as a salesperson at the J. C. Penney Co. and the Book Nook in Marshalltown.

She was preceded by her first husband and her second husband in 1967; also three brothers and a sister.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Lister of Osage and Marilyn (Mrs. Dean) Arney of Bettendorf; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; six sisters and two brothers, Dottie Farber, Beryl Hauser and Robert Fuller, all of Marshalltown, Marceda Tow of Iowa Falls, Meta McMeekin of Gilman, Nelda Holzapfel of Springfield, Mo., Joan Moore of Prague, Okla., and George Fuller of Baxter.
