OBITUARY. - Mrs. Clemmie, wife of M. T. Burnett, died in this city May 21st, 1893. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church, of which she was a faithful member, Monday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. Her body was laid at rest in Newton cemetery.

Mrs. Burnett was born in Ashland Co., O., May 4th 1850. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard, gave her a good education and she became a teacher. In 1876, when she was 26 years of age, she came to Iowa for a rest and visit, making her home with her aunt, Mrs. Trammel, near Ira. It was at this time that she became acquainted with Mr. Burnett. She returned the same year to her home in Ohio. In the fall of 1878 she came back to Iowa and was married to Mr. Burnett. With the exception of three years spent in Neb., the home of Mr. and Mrs. Burnett has always been in Jasper county. The husband and two children, a son and daughter, are left to mourn the loss of the wife and mother. She lived the life of a devoted christian, and was a very intelligent and useful member of the church, and of the community. For five years her health has gradually been failing. Besides having the care of her family and friends, she has had the care of her devoted mother, Mrs. Leonard, who came from Ohio several weeks ago in order to be with her daughter. Her death was peaceful. Her trust and hope were so bright and cheerful, that it seemed like going home for her to die. ~ The Newton Journal (Iowa), Wednesday, May 24, 1893.
