SAD ACCIDENT. - No doubt many of the JOURNAL readers remember Wm. E. Dilhorn, who formerly resided in Newton, and only recently removed from Iowa to Trenton, Mo., where he was in the employ of the C., R. 1. & P. Ry Co., as a switchman. On May 10th, while assisting in making up a train he was by some means thrown or fell across the track and was instantly killed. It is thought that two cars passed over his neck severing the head from the body. It is not generally known whether any blame attaches to the Ry managment or not. The accident occurred about 5 o'clock a.m., and but few persons, if any, saw or know just when it happened. The remains were brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. B. W. Blackwood, where he was born on July 4th, 1859. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Weise, and the remains borne o the Adamson Grove Cemetery, followed by the relatives and a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors, and laid in the family lot by the side of relatives that had gone before.
The relatives of the deceased tender their sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors, as well as those connected with the R. R., who so kindly assisted them in their sad bereavement. ~ The Newton Journal, Wednesday, May 17, 1893.
