DIED. -- At his residence in Newton, on Friday last, Feb. 24, 1893, Mr. John S. Davis, in the 56th year of his age.

Mr. Davis was born at Portsmouth, Ohio, April 20, 1831 - came to Iowa in 1862; first settled in Des Moines, but moved to Otley, 1865, and from thence to Newton in 1881. He was married in 1854 at Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Davis has been a sufferer from complication of diseases for many years. The funeral took place from his residence, on Monday last, Rev. C. C. Harrah officiating and using the Episcopal funeral services.

He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his departure. To the widow and children our people extend their sympathies and condolence. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Journal, Wednesday, Mar. 1, 1893.
