Memorial Services Held for Wilbur Sabin

Memorial services for Wilbur Sabin, 72, who died of heart arrest Saturday, November 28, 1987, were held Tuesday morning at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Pastor Jerry Stevenson officated.

Boyd-Davis funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born July 28, 1915 in Newton, he was the son of Calvin and Maggie Simons Sabin. He was reared and educated in Newton, where he lived until 1944, when he moved to Baxter.

Mr. Sabin was a machinist, a retired set-up man and also worked for Toland Funeral Home, Newton, Solar Aircraft, Des Moines and Parsons of Newton. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

On July 5, 1944, at Souix Falls, S.D., he married Lorene Dee.

Mr. Sabin is a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and a former member of the Amercian Legion and also a Boy Scout Leader.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Survivors are his wife, Lorene; two sons, Robert of Sedalia, MO, and Jerry Sabin of Nevada,IA; four daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Les) Gardiner of Newton, Linda (Mrs. Joseph) Fuller of Marshalltown, Marlene (Mrs. Ronald) Schweinebart of Baxter and Patricia (Mrs. James) Schweinebart of Baxter; a step-daughter Marilyn (Mrs. Jimmie) Wilson of Collins; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mabel Wheeler of Wausau, WI, Mary Swigart of Salt Lake City, UT, and Emma Jackson of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
