MARSHALLTOWN — Robert J. Warnell, 82, of Marshalltown and formerly of Malcom, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Jeff Arp, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton, officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Robert J. Warnell Memorial Fund.
The son of James Samuel and Rebecka Edith (Graham) Warnell, he was born April 25, 1923, in Marshalltown, where he was raised and received his education. He started driving a truck for a company at the age of 14.

On Jan. 31, 1942, he married Margaret Marie Adams in Bromley, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon discharge in 1947, the couple lived in Baxter and later returned to Marshalltown. He drove a truck for several companies, including Bass and Ace Hardware, and retired in 1977. The couple then moved to Florida for several years and later moved to Malcom. He had been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home since August 2005. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kayleen Kelley of Fort Mead, Fla., and Bobette Lerma of Toledo; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; four brothers, Paul, Clay, Roger and Wayne Warnell; and one sister, Marilyn Lannigan.
