Actor Shelly Attempts Suicide
Is the Husband of the Daughter of M. K. Livingston of Newton
Canton, Ill., Jan. 30. – Actor Garrett Shelly committed suicide in front of the hotel here tonight. His bride, who was with him, is from Newton, Ia. no reason is known for his act.
Mrs. Shelly was formerly Miss Mabel Livingston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Livingston of this city. She was married to Mr. Shelly last spring. A telegram was received Wednesday forenoon from Mrs. Shelly requesting her mother to come at once, but gave no reason for the urgent request. Mrs. Livingston left in the afternoon and a telegram from her yesterday to Mr. Livingston stated that Mr. Shelly was still alive. Mr. Livingston is without information as to the cause of his son-in-law’s attempt at self-destruction.
