Shortell – McCroskey
They Live in Monroe
From the Des Moines news, Feb. 9 – It is seldom the man who deals out marriage licenses at the county building has to write a document for so young a bridal couple as appeared at his desk yesterday. James McCroskey, a lad of 18 years and a resident of Monroe, called for a permit. When told that he was under age he promptly furnished the documents to show that his parents were willing. Miss Ida Mae Shortell of this city, who has just passed her 16th year, was the bride.
Both of the contracting parties are young in years and their appearance indicated they were still younger. They made a cute couple and the officials in the clerk’s office declare they are the smallest couple a license has ever been issued to in this county but they are the best looking. James and Ida were married this afternoon by Father Flavin. The little husband and wife will leave this evening for Monroe where they will start life in.
