Smallpox Spreading

Colfax, June 4. – The trustees of Poweshiek Township reports forty-five cases of smallpox. Valeria is rigidly quarantined and there are forty cases of the disease in that village. Guards are stationed on all roads leaving from Valeria to prevent the possible spread of the pest to other places. The cases are all reported as a mild form of contagion and the disease was brought from Oklahoma Territory.
