Mrs. Abbie Gardner Sharp, the sole survivor of the Gardner family, massacred on March 8, 1857, is here visiting friends for a few days. Mrs. Sharp’s home is at Okoboji Lake, where the Gardner cabin still stands. The state of Iowa should pension this lady who is nearing her eightieth year, and has experienced more hardships than any other woman in Iowa. – Des Moines Plain Talk
