50th Anniversary M/M Harvey DeVault 1984

Anniversary Celebrated

An open house was held Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2-5 p.m. in honor of Mr. and mrs. Harvey DeVault who were celebrating their golden anniversary, hosted by their family.

The couple were married Sept. 29, 1934, in Menlo, Ia., by the late Rev. O.R. Jones, uncle of the bride. She was the former Zerelda Geisler of Mingo, Ia. Their attendants-Irma (Baldwin) Goff of Pontiac, Mich. and Good Crawford of Denver, Colo., were unable to attend the anniversary celebration. Max DeVault, son, of Des Moines, was there.

The event was held at the Colo United Methodist Church. Their granddaughter, Debra Devault of Greenfield was in charge of the guest book which was signed by over 200 guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Vern DeVault (brother of Harvey) were host and hostess. Other dining room hostesses were Genevieve Geisler of Colo, Goldie Eldridge of Rhodes, Betty DeVault of Grinnell and Edna Langham of Des Moines. Sue Devault, daughter-in-law of the Devaults, dipped punch. Lucy Geisler poured coffee. Serving the cake was June Wilson of St. James City, Fla., sister o Mrs. DeVault, Wilma Geisler of Nevada (sister-in-law), and Rhoda Walker of Vinton, Harvey's sister. Tracy DeVault, great nephew and grandson of Vern and Freda De Vault, took care of cards and gifts.

The Colo United Methodist Church Circles were in charge of serving, chaired by Marguerite Farren. Helpers were Phyllis Harper, Ruth Wilson, Phyllis Wilson, Pauline Andrew, Jane Coughenour, Berniece Brownfield and Jennie Lyon. They took care of the serving table. Phyllis Wilson made the cakes.

Mildred Brinkman accompanied Julie Upchurch for several songs.

Special guests were Beulah Curtis of Newton, Mrs. DeVault's 90 year old aunt, and Vern (brother of Harvey) and Freda DeVault of Blackduck, Minn., and Bud and June Wilson, Mrs. DeVault's sister of St. James, Fla.

Great grandsons Ryan and Travis DeVault, sons of the late Michael and Carol (DeVault) Hutchinson were there from Greenfield, as well as Carl Campbell of Orient, fiance of Sue DeVault. Margaret Harding of Colo was also present.

Super was cooperative at 5 o'clock for brothers and sisters and their families in the church basement. Dorene Hemping, Ruby Cooper and Irene Coughenour were hostesses. The rest of document is cut off. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax, Ia 50054 Thurs Nov 1984. Page 2
