Celebrates Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

A number from this vicinity attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Ms. David Jones, held at McRea Park in Des Moines Sunday.

Over one hundred and twenty-five relatives and close friends from Melcher, Dallas, Colfax, Granger and Newton were present for this auspicious occasion, all being delighted for the opportunity to thus honor Aunt Betsy and Uncle David, as they are affectionately known.

All came bringing gifts and the happy bride and groom of fifty years received around fifty dollars in money besides many other lovely remembrances.

The program was given in the afternoon and was of the following:

Prayer -- Rev. Marriott
Poem to Mr. and Mrs. Jones by Opal Hexenbaugh, of Dallas
Speech -- Will Abram, Colfax
Welch Song -- Welch people led by Mr. Jones
Speech -- Morgan Jones Songs - "Mother Macree" and "Flee as a Bird," sung by Mrs. Laz Johns, both in English and Welch.
Speech - Dr. Fulton, First Presbyterian Church, Des Moines
Speech -- Rev. Marriott, pastor Ft. Des Moines Church
Song -- "Wont there be a time," by Mr. and Mrs. Jones
America -- By All

Mr. and Mrs. Jones have made many friends wherever they called home, a long list from Colfax being on the list, they being former residents.

Those from this vicinity who attended were Mr. and Mrs. William Abram, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Warrick, Mr. and Mrs. Laz Johns, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Price and Mrs. Ann Paynter of Colfax, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Angelo and children of newton.

The following appropriate poem, composed by Mrs. Maude Willis, of Dallas, was read in their honor:

Uncle Davy and Aunt Betsy
Just a few years ago
You folks came to Dallas,
And we learned to love you so.

Hand in hand you went among us
with a smile for every one
Never once were you too busy
But you't stop and help some weary one.

And when the clouds were gathered blackest,
When one would hardly know just what to do,
You would smile and always answer
"God will take care of you."

And then the time came
You must leave us
To the city you went to dwell
There to be with your dear children
Whom you love more than tongues can tell.

So today we's come to help the
Celebrate this great event
Fifty years you've been together
Hand in hand you's always went
And we people here in Dallas
And of course in Melcher too,
Will remember you as saying,
"God will take care of you." ~ the Newspaper unknown Thurs 31 July 1932.
