CUNNINGHAM

Surprised and Captured
Last Friday was the 20th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cunningham, and, while the happy couple were not unmindful of the fact themselves, and often during the day referred tenderly to the happy event of two score years ago, which insured to them the happiness which has crowned their lives in the intervening years, - they little dreamed of the “storm that was brewing,” or that their friends had any knowledge of its being their anniversary until in the evening, their homestead was completely captured by a host of their old friends from Monroe, accompanied by a number from Newton and other places. The surprise was complete, and the genial couple were somewhat “broken up” at first but they soon “rallied” and extended to their unexpected guests, that generous and whole-souled hospitality proverbial with the Cunningham homestead. Everything went merrier than a dozen marriage bells, and the “scenes of revelry” were kept up almost “to the dawn of day” – and when the guests departed it was with a feeling that the occasion had been one of the happiest of their lives, and with the hope that they might all be spared to celebrate with Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, even their golden wedding anniversary.
The following were the guests present: Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Bain and daughters Julia, Maud and Mina, Mr. and Mrs. Gehue Rinehart, Mrs. Sam McKee and daughters Jennie Bee and Grace, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Livingston and son Wallace, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Chipps, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Taylor, Mrs. Jno. Rinehart, Mrs. Geo. Rinehart, Mrs. J. Hankins and daughter Mattie, Mrs. Geo. B. Kipp, S. M. O. Huddleston, all of Monroe, Flora Bennett, of Ashewa, Mrs. Seth Dixon and daughter, Mrs. Geo. Lendrum and daughter Jennie, of Des Moines; Rob’t. Lyons, May Lyons, of Fairmount; W. H. McKee, of Sully’ Geo. W. Harlan, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Axtell, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Shropshire, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Westbrook, J. B. Eyerly, John Claussen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burns, Bloom Ryan, Ora Townsend, James Davis, Gertie Burns, Gus Sampey, Dell Kennedy, Chas. Jasper, Edith Ryan, Ed Mershon, Eva Woodrow, Fred Hough, Burt McCalmont, Mack Galusha, Mira Davis, C. A. Rinehart, Mira Allen, W. E. Coiner.

To the friends and neighbors who so unceremoniously dropped in; upon us last Friday evening we wish to say that after things had quieted down a little we were reminded of our absent mindedness in not saying to them that we are thankful for not only the solid tokens of respect left with us, but the enjoyment of their society on such an occasions ere our light goes out. Come again friends, and don’t wait for another 20th anniversary. Our latch string is always out. Joe and Fannie.
