Graduates from our Country Schools

Last week, forty three young persons came to Newton from the country schools of Jasper
to take the examinations, which, if successfully passed, would entitle them to diplomas as graduates.

The examination took place in the Court Room, under the supervision of E. C. Meredith, County
superintendent. Seventeen of those your folks were successful, and will receive the handsome diplomas.
Their names and the schools to which they belong are as follows:
Mary Schwab, No. 6, Newton Township.
Clarence W. Robb, No. 4, Buena Vista Tp.
Eugene Squires, No. 6, Palo Alto Tp.
Walter L. Sims, No. 8, Sherman Tp.
Horace Moffitt, No. 8, Sherman Tp.
Arthur Newcomer, No. 6, Hickory Grove Tp.
Neva Watt , No. 4, Sherman Tp.
Arthur Watt, No. 4, Sherman Tp.
Bertha B. Campbell, No. 2, Mound Prairie Tp
Charlie Turner, No 9, Buena Vista Tp
David Welle, No 9, Buena Vista Tp
Clark Rouze, No 4, Buena Vista Tp
Laura Dodge, No 3, Palo Alto Tp
Sadie e. Wormley, No 5, Newton Tp.
Gertrude A. Loupee, No 6, Kellogg, Township Kellogg Tp
Nellie Zerley, Pleasant Hill, Ind Dist of Fairview Tp
Harry Fenner, No.8, Buena Vista Tp

These students are to be congratulated, for the diplomas are not easily gained, as a good grade is required, as it should be. The diplomas will doubtless be kept amoung the treasures in the homes to which they will go. ~ The Newton Journal, 29 Mar 1899.
