Historic Tea Kettle Shown At Porter Family Reunion
Captured From British in 1778 – Cast at Time Liberty Bell Was Poured
A joint Porter reunion of 140 relatives gathered at Union Park, Des Moines, Sunday. Relatives from various places in Iowa were present.
Owns Historic Kettle
Bruce E. Sattele brought an old tea kettle that was captured from the British at the battle of Monmouth June 28, 1778 by his great-great grandfather, James Spicer. It is made of the same material as the Liberty Bell and cast at the same factory. It was full of butter when captured.
A dinner was served cafeteria style.

(Descendants of Moses Porter) present were: Gifford Davis of Guthrie Center; Clara Cameron of Guthrie Center; Hattie Davis of Guthrie Center; Eva Cameron, Des Moines, John Goodell, Luella Crabtree, Newton; Beth Cameron, Des Moines; Al Newport of Panora; Etta Weigle, Des Moines.
Descendants of Joseph Porter present were: Arthur Porter and wife, Des Moines.
