BARTHOLOMEW, John
Dealer in Dry Goods, Groceries, and General Merchandise, on west side of public square, Greencastle; born in Fairfield, Iowa in 1844; came to Jasper Co. in March 1878. Married Miss Susan A. TETERS in 1867; was born in Pennsylvania in 1846. They have four children - William, Emmet, Frank and Clara Bell. Democrat. Enlisted in the 1st I. V. Battery in 1851; participated in the battle of Pea Ridge; then discharged; enlisted in the 3rd I. V. Cav. in 1863; participated at Louisburg, Ala., Monta Valley, Ala., Ebenezer Church, Ala., Selma, Columbia, and others; mustered out at Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 9, 1866. ~ "Poweshiek Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
