GUTHRIE, I. N.
Farmer and grower of fine stock; Sec. 5; P. O. Newton; born in Lancaster, Penn., in 1833; came to Jasper Co., in 1853. Has 260 acres of land, valued at $50 per acre. Married Martha THOMPSON in 1858; she was born in Henry Co., Ind., in 1830; they have five children-Annie T., John D., Martha B., Lillie May and George C. Greenbacker. Has held offices of School Director two terms and Road Supervisor three terms. Mr. and Mrs. G. are members of the Presbyterian Church. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, No. 74, Newton. Mr. G. had, on coming to Jasper County, only enough to enter 160 acres of land, and now has one of the best stock farms in the county, well supplied with water, several fine groves, a stock barn which cost him $1,500, 200 apple trees, and his land well underlaid with coal and only three and one-quarter miles from Newton. ~ "Palo Alto Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
