ASHLEY, Riley
Farmer; Sec. 9; P. O. Newton; born in Knox Co., Ohio, in 1821; came to Jasper County in 1849. Has eighty acres of land, valued at $75 per acre. Married Miss Drucella HELFRY in 1840; she was born in Licking Co., Ohio, in Dec. 1823, died in April, 1860, leaving five children-Annias M., William H., John, Annie and Phebe; then married Mrs. Maranda A. WOODRUFF in 1862; she was born in Licking Co., Ohio, in 1833; they have two children-Elsworth and Katie Greenbacker. Has held the office of Sheriff, School Director and Secretary of School Board ten years. Member of the A., F. & A.
