PENROSE, Edwin; Farmer, Sec. 23, P. O. Lynnville. He was born in Berks Co., PA in 1807. He moved to Canada in 1808, returned to Jefferson Co., OH in 1815, thence to Belmont Co., in 1818. He went to Knox Co. in 1841, to Whiteside Co., IL in 1845, to Keokuk Co., Iowa in 1865 and to this county in 1868. He married Mary SPENCER in 1828. She was born in Virginia in 1805, and died in 1872. Their children living are Lavinia, Eliza, Ann, Rachel, Nathan and Jesse. They are members of the Hicksite branch of the Friends' Society. He has been Town Clerk, Treasurer, and School Director. He owns eighty acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. ~ "The History of Jasper County" (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878), 535
