Byron W. Preston
Judge of the Supreme Court, was born at Newton, Jasper county, Iowa, February 13, 1858. Lived on a farm until 13 years of age, then went with his parents to Grinnell, Iowa. Son of Sylvester S. and Melia M. Preston. Attended public school and Iowa college at Grinnell. He engaged in mercantile business at Newton and Grinnell until 1883, when he went to Oskaloosa and read law with Judge L.C. Blanchard. Was admitted to the bar in 1884. Elected county attorney in 1891 and served four years. Was also city attorney. Elected judge of the district court in 1902 and served as such until January 1, 1913. Was elected judge of the supreme court of Iowa in 1912, re-elected in 1918. Married Nellie Blanchard of Newton in 1880. Has two children, a son and a daughter. Is a communicant of St. James' Episcopal church at Oskaloosa. A republican in politics.
