WINSLOW, Horace Spencer, Hon.
Judge of the Sixth Judicial District. he was born 18 Jul 1837 in Pittsford, Rutland Co., VT. He is a direct descendant from the Winslows of Massachusetts, whose original ancestors came over on the Mayflower. He studied for his profession at Poughkeepsie, NY during 1855. The following year he came to the Ohio State and Union Law School at Poland, Mahoning Co., OH. From there he graduated 1 Jul 1856 and came at once to Jasper Co., Iowa where he has since continued to reside. In 1862 he was elected District Attorney of the Sixth Judicial District. he served in this capacity for four years. In 1868 he was elected Judge of the Second Circuit, Sixth Judicial District for the term of four years. At the end of one year he resigned this office, and resumed his practice till 1874, when he was elected Judge of the Sixth Judicial District, which position he still holds. In 1872 he was a delegate to the National Republican Convention at Philadelphia, and at one time a member of the State Central Committee. On the 12th of March 1859 he was made a Master Mason in the Newton Lodge, No. 59, and has filled nearly all the offices in his Lodge. He married Miss Sarah B. DUNKLEE 7 Nov 1858. She was born 2 Oct 1837 in Pittsford, Rutland Co. VT.
