WOODS, John A.
Farmer; Sec. 18; P. O. Mitchellville; born in East Tennessee in 1809; came to Johnson Co., Ind. in 1835; thence to Jasper Co. in 1849. Has 342 1/2 acres of land, valued at $65 (per acre). Married Miss Auzey BOGGUS in 1837; she was born in Bergen Co., Ky. in 1809. They have three children - Harrison H., Lorinda M., Melinda A. Republican. Mr. Woods is among the earliest settlers, and has made what he has; he has a fine, well-improved farm, an elegant brick house, and orchard of twenty-seven acres and a fence about his yard the material of which cost $400. ~ "Washington Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
