FISHER, Benjamin
Farmer; Sec. 13; P. O. Greencastle; born in Baltimore, Md. in 1803; came to York Co., Penn. in 1806; thence to Wayne Co., Ind. in 1835, and to Jasper Co. in 1857. Has 150 acres of land, valued at $50. Married Miss Eltzabeth HILDENBRAND in 1830. She was born in York Co., Penn. in 1811, died Sept. 29, 1877, leaving thirteen children - Rebecca, Adam, Eliza, Savela, Benjamin, Ellanora, Elizabeth, Gemimah, Edward, Sarah, Mariah, Keziah and Gideon. Republican; Mr. and Mrs. F. were both members of the Evangelical Association. Mr. Fisher had two sons, William and Silas, in the late war; William died in service; Silas died in April 1876. When Mr. F. came to Jasper Co. he had no house and could get none; unloaded on the open prairie, without shelter. Note: Transcriber's note: It was most probably a typographical error when the value of the land was listed as $50. In keeping with the format of other sketches and the value of Jasper Co. land, it most likely should have read "valued at $50 per acre." ~ "Poweshiek Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
