DOUD, P. H.
Postmaster, Justice of the Peace and Notary Public, Greencastle; born in Vermont, Sept. 5, 1800. Moved to Tioga Co., Penn. in 1818, thence to Jefferson Co., Ohio in 1853, and to this county in 1854. Owns house and lot, and office, Block 13, lots 3 and 4, and a half interest in flouring mill with 1 1/2 acres of ground. He married Louisa HAYDEN in 1824. She was born in Hampshire Co., Mass. in 1804. They have five children - Helen M., Mary A., Eugene S., Adelia E. and Malcolm P. Mr. D. is a radical Republican. Has held offices of County Commissioner, and President of Achool Board. In 1859, he went to California, remaining there four years engaged in mining; his oldest son being there engaged in the wholesale dry goods business. Greencastle was laid out in 1856, by a man named Albert Ship (now a resident of Shelby Co.)
