FRENCH, Lee
Farmer; Sec. 16; P. O. Newton; born in Miami Co., Ohio, in 1843; came to Jasper Co. in 1857; has 100 acres of coal land, valued at $100 per acre. Married Miss Ella MOHR in 1867; she was born in Freeport, Ill., in 1850; they have five children-Harry A., Delia, Carrie, Earl P. and Vearn. Greenbacker; he is a member of the Congregational Church. Enlisted in the 28th I. V. I., in August, 1862; taken prisoner while on post guard at Helena, Ark., in January, 1863; held at St. Louis; paroled and returned to hospital then until discharged on account of ill health, Sept. 1, 1863. ~ "Palo Alto Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
