DAVIS, R. W.
Dealer in general merchandise; Reasonor; born in Indiana in 1834; removed to Muscatine Co., Iowa, in 1834; thence to Jasper Co. in 1855; owns house and lot at Newton and lot in Reasonor, together with an excellent line of dry goods, groceries and general merchandise, and hopes by strict integrity and attention to business to not only retain the patronage of his present customers, but merit that of the entire population of Palo Alto and adjoining townships. Married Catharine KELER in Sept., 1865; she was born in Luzerne Co., Penn., in 1838. Mr. and Mrs. DAVIS are members of the U. P. Church; Democratic. Enlisted in the 22d Iowa V. I. In Aug. , 1862; participated in thirteen regular engagements-Port Gibson, Champion Hills, Vicksburg, Black River Bridge, Jackson, Winchester, Cedar Creek and Fisher's Hill; was among the number taken prisoner at Cedar Creek; held one month at Libby and three months at Danville; was mustered out in July, 1865, at Savannah, Ga. ~ "Palo Alto Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
