COWLES, Sylvester
Farmer and stock grower; Sec. 9; P. O. Newton; born in Orleans Co., N. Y., in 1824; came to Jasper Co. in 1852; has 400 acres of land, valued at $35 per acre. Married Caroline BALL in 1851; she was born in Cortland Co., N. Y., in 1833; they have seven children-Virgil D., Alice, Charles, Nellie, Fantie, Flora and Carrie.
