Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 33; P. O. Prairie City; was born in Montgomery Co., N. Y., July 6, 1835; came to this county in 1868; has 160 acres of land, valued at $6,400; held the offices of Justice of the Peace, Township Trustee, Vice President of the Agricultural Board; also Vice President of Mutual Fire Ins Co., Jasper Co. Is a member of the M. E. Church. Married Hannah E. CLOUGH; she was born in Greene Co., N. Y., Dec. 24, 1833; Mr. W. emigrated to Henry Co., Ill.; lived there four years; thence to Jasper Co. where he has resided since; raises about 65 acres of corn yearly, 10 acres of wheat, 15 acres of oats, turns off 40 head of hogs; has some pure blooded Poland-China pigs; for the last seven or eight years has contended for premiums at their Fair, and has taken more first premiums on Poland-China hogs than any man in the county; has as fine a house as any man need live in, and is amongst the wealthiest men in the township.~ "Mound Prairie Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
