BADGER, John J.
Farmer; Sec. 26; P. O. Prairie City; born Dec. 5, 1805; came to this county in 1868; has 160 acres of land, valued at $6,000; belongs to the M. E. Church. Married Emily GILSON. She was born in New York in 1813, and died Dec. 17, 1877. She was mother of twelve children, eight of whom are living - Mary, Delia, Almira, Lentoin, Emily, Adda, Jeremiah, Alfred, Adelbert. Emigrated from Pennsylvania to Galesburg, Knox Co., Ill.; lived there seven years; thence to Jasper Co. The home Mr. B. used to own now stands the city of Vanguida, Warren Co., Penn.; oil was struck on the same place a short time after leaving; probably there are a hundred wells on the place; could sold one year later for $1,000 per acre. ~ "Mound Prairie Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
