BRIDGES, Green
Farmer and Stock Raiser; Sec. 8; P. O. Newton; born in Indiana October 19, 1829. He married Miss LOGSDON in Iowa August 24, 1854. She was born in Kentucky in 1834. They had three children - Edmond, Martha and Emeline. Mrs. Bridges died in 1857. Mr. Bridges then married for his second wife Sarah A. REYNOLDS in 1858. She was born in Kentucky. They has eleven children - Perrie, Rebecca, Hayden, Jane, Absalom, Joseph, Carrie Bell, Rillie and Charles; two children died in infancy. He has 349 acres of land, valued at $25 per acre. He moved to Kentucky as a child and remained until he was 19 years of age; thence to Illinois and remained fifteen months, and thence to Iowa in 1849. He was one of the very earliest settlers in Malaka Tp.; at that time there were but three houses from his farm to Oskaloosa. He had to haul goods and lumber from the Mississippi River and share all the disadvantages of the early settlers. He has taken an active interest in and gave his support to the schools, churches, etc., since the first settlement of the township. Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs.[sic] B are members of the Protestant Methodist Church; he is a Republican in politics. ~ "Malaka Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
