STALLINGS, Wesley
Farmer; Sec. 14; P. O. Lynnville; born in Claiborne Co., Tenn., May 11, 1812. Married Elizabeth MAYS in the Summer of 1830, and a few weeks after moved with his parents to Sangamon CO., Ill.; April 8, 1844, he left Sangamon Co. for Iowa with an ox team, and about May 10, arrived at this place; then there was not a settler in this part of the country; he broke some prairie, planted corn, turnips, potatoes and cabbage, and then went back to Illinois for his family and returned with them about the last of September; he is the oldest living settler in this county north of the Skunk River. Mrs. STALLINGS, who came to this county at such an early day, has been dead many years; his children are Martha A. (now Mrs. HILSEBECK, residing in Crawford Co., Iowa), Nancy J. (died in Illinois, aged 11 years), William M., residing in this township; Lucinda (now Mrs. McNULTY, residing in this township), Elizabeth (died in Illinois, aged 4 years), John P.; Angeline (now Mrs. TAYLOR, residing in this township) and Wesley. Mr. S. married again to Mrs. Lucetta LANCASTER in the Fall of 1867; her children by a former marriage are Eliza J., Sarah A., Benjamin F. and Rhoda E.; J. P. and Wesley STALLINGS, jr. reside on the home place; the former was born in this township Oct. 1, 1845. Married Sarah A. LANCASTER Nov. 16, 1851.
