SPARKS, J. J.
Farmer; Sec. 15; P. O. Lynnville; owns 170 acres of land, valued at $6,000; was born in Morgan Co., Ill., in March, 1839; came to Lee Co., Iowa, with his parents when but an infant, and remained until 1848, and moved to this county, settling near where he now lives. Enlisted in Co. E, 4th I. V. C., July 5, 1861; was at the battles of Guntown and Vicksburg, and many severe skirmishes; was honorably discharged in Jan., 1865, and returned to this county. Married Sally RAYBORN Feb. 22, 1866; she was born in Highland Co., Ohio; they have two children-Fred and Harry. He is raising on his farm corn, wheat, oats, etc.; has an fine orchard of 180 trees, besides a number of bearing peach trees. ~ "Lynn Grove Township Biographies," The History of Jasper County, Iowa, (Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1878)
