QUAINTANCE, E. C.
Farmer; Sec. 36; P. O. Granville, Mahaska Co.; owns 252 acres of land, valued at $7,000; born in Jefferson Co., Ohio, May 21, 1822; moved to Crawford Co., Ohio, with his parents when 2 years old, where he remained till 1854, and moved to Iowa, settling in Holmes Township, Mahaska Co., near what is known as the Elkhorn Tavern; here he lived a little over a year, and moved to what is know as New Sharon, and erected the first house on the site of that village, remaining about one year and then moved to Granville, where he lived till 1875, and then returned to New Sharon, where he engaged in the mercantile business; but unfortunately, after doing business upward of a year, a fire consumed almost his whole stock; hew then disposed of his business in New Sharon and moved to his present farm in May, 1877. He married Jane FRAME in Crawford Co., Ohio; she was a native of Pennsylvania, and died January 14, 1852, in her 31st year; the children by this marriage RE Ann E., born April 9, 1848; Amanda J., born November 8, 1849, and Martha, born January 14, 1852, now deceased; he married again, Eveline GILES, June 26, 1853; she was born in Morrow Co., Ohio, July 13, 1833, and died Dec. 27, 1856; the children by this marriage are Sidney B., born May 28, 1854, and Wilbur, born August 25, 1855, and died August 3, 1856; he married again, Mrs. Eliza DAIVES, whose maiden name was GRIFFITH, August 19, 1857; she was born in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, April 29, 1822; she married Samuel DAIVES in 1844, who died Oct. 22, 1856; she came to Iowa with her husband in 1846, and settled in Louisa Co.
