THOMPSON, James
Farmer and stock raiser; Sec. 19; P. O. Clyde; born in Chester Co., Penn., Nov. 11, 1818. Married Mary A. HOLLILWILL in Indiana; she was born in Ohio; they have had six children - David H., Andrew R., George W., Harvey A., Ida A. and John. Mrs. THOMPSON died in Independence in 1874. Mr. THOMPSON married for his second wife Emeline COLE in December, 1876; she was born in Ohio in 1836. He has 340 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre; has the largest bearing orchard in this section of the country; he has good buildings, a pleasant location, some good timber, good shades, etc., with all the comforts of life; he moved to Wheeling, W. Va., and thence to Indiana; followed the carpentering and building in Indiana, and in Iowa he followed dealing in and shipping livestock to Chicago eight years; he came to Iowa in 1854, to Independence. Has held the offices of Township Supervisor and Township Director. Mr. THOMPSON followed milling for four years on Indian Creek.
